| OCEAN MARINA YACHT CLUB SAILING
COMMITTEE FORMAT FOR 2008 RACING
1. There will be 10 race weekends organized by OMYC in addition
to the Top of The Gulf Regatta.
2. One Series will consist of 4 weekends, the other two of 3 weekends
each.
3. Racing will be organized in 5 divisions, Racing, Cruising, Platu,
Multihulls and Sports Boats. Based on number of participants there
may be the need to combine some of these divisions. Platus shall
race together with Sports Boats. Platus shall be scored as a one-design
fleet as well as in the Sports Boats Division under SBR.
4. Yachts are registered in the series based on their sail/hull
number and the name of the skipper. A change of skipper during may
be allowed in exceptional cases subject to the approval of the race
committee.
5. Each division/fleet has appointed a fleet captain, who jointly
with the Sailing Secretary shall constitute a sailing sub-committee.
The members are:
Peter Herning – Sailing Secretary
Kevin Scott – Platu representative
David Bell – Racing yacht representative
Kipsan Beck – Sports Boat representative
Frank Clovyn – Cruising yacht representative
Olaf Reese – Mulltihull representative
6. Preferably each series shall have a sponsor. For the first series,
Gulf Charters, for the second, Simpson Marine, will be the sponsors.
A sponsor for the last series of the year is open, as is the possibility
of an overall annual sponsorship.
7. In addition to the races mentioned under 1. above, OMYC yachts
are invited to participate in 4 RVYC race events, and 1 overnight
cruising event.
8. The courses used will be a mixture of “around the cans”
layouts and coastal races. In the Platu schedule there will be more
coastal races this year than in 2007. The courses and/or start times
of the Cruising Division shall allow these boats to finish racing
reasonably simultaneously with the other Divisions.
9. RVYC yachts (likely to be catamarans) may be invited to OMYC
events depending on the interest level from RVYC sailors.
10. Other domestic “big boat” events which could include
OMYC sailors/yachts are the Phang Nga Bay Regatta, The Gulf Charters
Koh Chang Cruise and Regatta, the Koh Samui Regatta, the Phuket
Race Week, the Hua Hin Regatta and the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta,
as well as any additional YRAT/Navy events.
11. In summary there will be at least 21 race events in Thailand
during 2008 open to OMYC yachts.
12. The amount of the race fee per weekend shall be Baht 300 per
yacht including skipper plus Baht 300 per crew member.
13. All yachts participating in OMYC race events must have a valid
measurement certificate. The relevant certificates are IRC for racing
yachts, ThaiCap for cruisers, OMR certificates for multihulls and
RORC Sports Boat certificates for sports boats (and possibly for
Platus). Racing yachts and sports boats should also have a ThaiCap
rating to enable the combination of the monohull classes as the
need may be. During the course of the year the ThaiCap may be supplemented
with a performance based handicap.
14. It is strongly recommended that yachts participating in OMYC
racing have adequate 3rd party insurance cover .
15. A permanent race officer/deputy for the weekend racing will
be supplied by YRAT.
16. At the fleet level there will be fun-sail weekends (normally
the fourth weekend of each month) organized by the fleet captains.
A list of persons responsible shall be established.
17. The Platu Fleet shall have an Annual Platu Championship based
on the results of 5 races, being the Open Championship, the Coronation
Cup, the Hua Hin Regatta, the National Championship and the Varuna
Cup.
18. The Corsair fleet will hold a Corsair Cup as part of the Top
of the Gulf Regatta.
19. Furthermore, OMYC will have an Annual Championship for 2008,
based on the results of the 3 series and the Top of the Gulf regatta.
For this purpose, the placing in each of these 4 events shall be
scored according to the low points scoring system. Ties shall be
broken based on total points in the races to count in each of these
regattas.
20. Overnight/day cruising will also be organized. At present the
Sailing Calender includes only one such cruising event, the Koh
Rin Outing (organized by RVYC). The Koh Sri Chang overnighter is
a race included in the first series of the year. Additional events
shall be added. It will be explored to which extent motor yachts
wish to participate in these cruising events.
21. A briefing on the 2008 sailing program to all sailors will
be held at OMYC on Saturday, January 13th at 9:30 am.
